Inhomogeneous activity enhances density phase separation in active model B

چکیده

We study the binary phase separation in active model B, on a two-dimensional substrate with inhomogeneous activity. Activity was introduced maximum value at center of box and spread as Bivariate-Gaussian distribution we move away from center. The system studied for three different intensities distribution. Toward boundary box, activity is zero or similar to passive B. start random homogeneous density particles, evolves toward structured density. With time, starts separate decreases box. width profile increases power law exponent α(t) remains close between 2/3 3/4 up some moderate time then decays steady state. Hence, our result shows response an respect patterned substrate. It can be used design devices useful trapping segregation particles.

Activity-induced phase separation and self-assembly in mixtures of active and passive particles.

We investigate the phase behavior and kinetics of a monodisperse mixture of active (i.e., self-propelled) and passive isometric Brownian particles through Brownian dynamics simulations and theory. As in a purely active system, motility of the active component triggers phase separation into a dense and a dilute phase; in the dense phase, we further find active-passive segregation, with "rafts" o...

Phase separation in the Hubbard model.

The Hartree-Fock ground-state phase diagram of the one-dimensional Hubbard model is calculated in the μ−U plane, restricted to phases with no charge density modulation. This allows antiferromagnetism, saturated ferromagnetism, spiral spin density waves and a collinear structure with unit cell ↑↑↓↓. The spiral phase is unstable against phase separation near quarter-, halfand three-quarter-fillin...

Phase separation and rotor self-assembly in active particle suspensions.

Adding a nonadsorbing polymer to passive colloids induces an attraction between the particles via the "depletion" mechanism. High enough polymer concentrations lead to phase separation. We combine experiments, theory, and simulations to demonstrate that using active colloids (such as motile bacteria) dramatically changes the physics of such mixtures. First, significantly stronger interparticle ...

Hydrodynamic suppression of phase separation in active suspensions.

We simulate with hydrodynamics a suspension of active disks squirming through a Newtonian fluid. We explore numerically the full range of squirmer area fractions from dilute to close packed and show that "motility induced phase separation," which was recently proposed to arise generically in active matter, and which has been seen in simulations of active Brownian disks, is strongly suppressed b...

Block spin density matrix of the inhomogeneous AKLT model

We study the inhomogeneous generalization of a 1-dimensional AKLT spin chain model. Spins at each lattice site could be different. Under certain conditions, the ground state of this AKLT model is unique and is described by the Valence-Bond-Solid (VBS) state. We calculate the density matrix of a contiguous block of bulk spins in this ground state. The density matrix is independent of spins outsi...
